Elly Sherman
|
A native of Vienna, Austria, Sherman lived in Paris until its occupation
during World War II. She left France for the United States in 1941 with a
brief stay in a Trinidad concentration camp. She lived in Boston, where
she learned English, before moving to New York where she studied painting
with Norman Lewis. She is currently living in Los Angeles. Her work is
shown in galleries and is in private and public collections in the United
States, Europe and Japan. Her history of adapting to different cultures,
of surviving the dangers of war and her hope for peace and understanding
played a strong part in shaping the project: Words and Images - A Portrait
of Languages. "Through language, the universal human expression, we can
celebrate the unity of the human family. In the diversity of languages we
can celebrate the beauty of our diversity." - Shawn Waggoner, from "Glass Art" magazine. |
